BBL 2021-22: Watch - Fraser McGurk pulls off a one hand stunner to dismiss Jake Weatherland against Adelaide Strikers

 

The 11th edition of the Big Bash League has kicked off by a bang with three matches on 7th December, Tuesday. Melbourne Renegades and Adelaide Strikers have locked horns with each other in the opening match of the tournament.

Kane Richardson led Melbourne Stars have won the toss and decided to bat first. Sam Harper and Mackenzie Harvey opened the innings for Melbourne Stars and gave the expected start for their side.

Both the batters added 65 runs for the opening wicket before Sam Harper was dismissed for 33 runs. Then Mackenzie Harvey played some crucial shots in the middle and added 56 runs before being dismissed by Rashid Khan.

James Seymour scored 23 runs and the lower-order batters didn't give enough support and returned to the pavilion with cheap numbers. In the end, Melbourne Stars posted a decent total of 153 runs on the board.

Following the chase, the skipper of Adelaide Strikers, Peter Siddle sent Matthew Short and Jake Weatherland to open the innings for the side. Both the batters provided a decent start to the innings and added 45 runs for the first wicket partnership.

Then Zahir Khan gave the first breakthrough by dismissing the well-settled Matthew Short for 29 runs. Jake Weatherland followed him after the end of the powerplay overs after being dismissed by Zahir Khan for 18 runs.

Harry Nielson played some decent shots in the middle along with Daniel Dew, as he didn't get enough support from Jonathan Wells and Ryan Gibson in the middle. Their lower-order also struggled against the opposition bowlers and had to warm the bench with single-digit numbers.

In the end, Melbourne Stars won the match by a margin of just 2 runs and will be hoping to perform well in the upcoming games. During the Adelaide Strikers' innings, Fraser McGurk pulled off a stunning catch to dismiss Jake Weatherland for 18 runs.
