Watch: Marnus Labuschagne triggered controversy after taking an unhandy catch in Sheffield Shield

 

The Australian right-handed all-rounder Marnus Labuschagne came to the limelight when he amassed 426 runs in the Border Gavaskar Trophy when India toured Australia.

He is a talented player who maintains his numbers really good in all formats of the game. In Tests, the South Africa born cricketer has scored 1885 run in 16 games that he played at an average of well above 60 including five hundred, 10 fifties and a double hundred to his name.

Moreover, he played at an average of around 53 during the Test series against India as he got two fifties and a hundred in the final Test in Gabba.

However, after his fabulous performance in the final Test, the hosts still went on to lose the series by 2-1. Currently, the 26-year-old has engaged in a busy schedule in the Sheffield Shield 2020-21 competition. 

Labuschagne's catch triggered the controversy

The latter has hit the headlines after his controversial catch in the Sheffield Shield tournament. During a game between Queensland and New South Wales where the incident took place.

Marnus Labuschagne grabbed the catch of the wicket-keeper batsman Baxter Holt who tried to loft the ball over the mid-on region. But the batsman miss times the ball and in the end, it went to cover the region there Marnus Labuschagne was spotted taking an unhandy catch.

However, the umpire made his decision in the favor of the fielding side. The commentators could not agree and were caught while saying "That was a little peculiar."

Let's take a look at the summary of the game

New South in the first innings scored 381 runs with some brilliant performances by Daniel Sams, Matthew Gikes, Jason Sangha and Lachlan Hearne as they scored 74, 66, 103 and 50 runs respectively.

Brendan Doggett has been the best with the ball and picked up 4 wickets to his name. Queensland in their first innings has displayed some good skills with the bat and took the lead after scoring 433 runs on the board.

Marnus Labuschagne was the top scorer who smashed 113 runs along with Bryce Street, Usman Khawaja and Jimmy Peirson with the numbers 59, 64 and 59 respectively. Nathan Lyon was the star performer for Queensland as he scalped 6 wickets in his bag.

Following the lead, New South Wales in the second innings lost two wickets for 49 runs as Mitchell Swepson was successful to send the batsmen back to the dressing room at the end of Day 3.
