LPL 2021: Dambulla Giants survived from the jaws of defeat against Colombo Stars

 

The 11th match of the Lanka Premier League is played between Colombo Stars and Dambulla Giants at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The skipper of Dambulla Giants won the toss and decided to bat first.

They got a good start from the openers Niroshan Dickwella and Philip Salt as they added 48 runs for the first wicket partnership. Seekkuge Prasanna provided the breakthrough for his skipper by removing both Dickwella and Salt for 30 and 21 runs.

Then Sohaib Maqsood played a good knock by coming at number three and scoring 24 runs before being dismissed by Jeffrey Vandersay. The middle-order of the Dambulla Giants didn't live up to the expectations of the fans and added around 40 runs with the bat. In the end, Dambulla Giants posted a decent total of 138 runs on the board.

Dambulla Giants vs Colombo Stars

Colombo came to bat in the second innings with the target of 139 runs in front of them. However, they didn't get the expected start from their top-order batsmen as Kusal Perera, Tom Banton and Ashan Priyanjan have been removed by Tharindu Ratnayake and Imran for 5, 8 and 3 runs.

Sherfane Rutherford also followed them after getting just 4 runs under his belt. The skipper of the side, Dhananjaya de Silva played a crucial inning along with Dinesh Chandimal and almost took the till the end of the game.

The skipper of Colombo Stars scored 33 runs and got dismissed by Tharindu Ratnayake in the twelfth over of the game. However, Dinesh Chandimal took the match on his shoulders and didn't get enough support from the order end.

The match went till the last as Colombo Stars needed 13 off 6 balls and the opposition skipper asked Chamika Karunaratne to bowl the final over of the game. After getting some runs in the first five balls, Colombo Stars needed 6 off the final delivery as Chandimal pulled the ball at his best and it fall just short of the boundary rope. In the end, Dambulla Stars won the match by just one run.
