James Pattinson gives a nasty blow to Hughes during a Sheffield Shield match
Pattinson's ferocity was on display when he slammed a wayward toss that injured New South Wales starter Daniel Hughes in the current Sheffield Shield encounter. To escape loss on day four of its Sheffield Shield match against Victoria, New South Wales Blues were chasing an implausible goal of 422 at the MCG.
A gutsy 89 not out from Hughes stymied the Victorian bowlers, and Pattinson ultimately succumbed to exhaustion. When James Pattinson picked up a full delivery from Daniel Hughes and threw it towards the stumps, Hughes was out for six. It was only after the ball fell on the batter's foot that Pattinson's hand went up in remorse.
Angry at the bowler, Daniel Hughes glared at him as he staggered off the field and threw his helmet to the ground. The game was put on hold for three minutes as the team's doctors raced to the field. Hughes evaded Pattinson's bouncer with relative ease.

After the 2014 Boxing Day Test, Australian paceman Mitchell Johnson slammed a cricket ball at Indian captain Virat Kohli's leg during a heated exchange. Scott Boland claimed his fifth five-wicket haul of his first-class career as New South Wales lost the game by 174 runs at the MCG.
Talking about the game, Boland said, “We’ve had a really long pre-season. The ball had been coming out really well in the practice matches so I was really looking forward to the season getting started. There’s so many good fast bowlers around, it’s going to be hard for me to get a crack. All I can do is keep doing what I’ve been doing for the last few years and if the opportunity comes I’ll be really happy.”
Rogers elaborated, “I’ve been saying it privately to a few people but I wouldn’t swap him for just about anyone in the competition. He’s the finished article when it comes to his bowling, I think he’s taken another step, so if he was to be selected I’m sure he’d do a very fine job.”
