IND vs NZ: Watch - Washington Sundar's sacrifice for Suryakumar Yadav after a terrible mix-up during the 2nd T20I against New Zealand
A miscommunication leads Washington Sundar to sacrifice his wicket for the No.1 T20I cricketer Suryakumar Yadav as they got engaged in a terrible mix-up during the 2nd T20I against New Zealand.
Coming up to the game, the skipper of New Zealand, Mitchell Santner won the toss and opted to bat. Batting first, the Men In Black were only able to post 99 runs as the Indian bowlers kept their line and length very tight in the first half of the game.
Mitchell Santner scored 19 runs, the highest score in the New Zealand innings. While chasing the total posted by the opposition, Indian batters failed to get runs in the powerplay overs as New Zealand bowlers didn't want to let the batters score the runs quickly.
However, after losing some wickets, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya stood firm in the middle and helped their side to run over the victory line. Hence, the 3-match T20I series is alive after India levelled the series by 1-1.
It was my mistake, it was definitely not a run: Suryakumar Yadav
During the post-match presentation, Suryakumar Yadav shared a lot about the game and the incident that happened with Washington Sundar. "A different version of SKY today. Adapting to the situation was very important when I went into bat.
After losing Washy, it was important for someone to take the game till the end. (On his mix-up with Washington Sundar) It was my mistake, it was definitely not a run, I didn't see where the ball was going," Suryakumar Yadav was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
"It was a challenging wicket. We didn't think it's turn this way in the second innings but it's important to adapt. We just needed one hit in that over and it was very important to calm our nerves.
Before we got the winning runs, he (Hardik) came and told me 'you are going to finish on this ball' and that gave me a lot of confidence," he added.
