ICC Under 19 World Cup 2022: Watch - Afghanistan stunned everyone by defeating Sri Lanka in a low-scoring encounter

 

The fourth Quarter Final of the ICC Under 19 World Cup has been played between Sri Lanka Under 19 and Afghanisthan Under 19 at the Coolidge Cricket Ground, Antigua on 27th January, Thursday.

Having a look at the match, the skipper of Sri Lanka Under 19 won the toss and decided to take the field. They got a good start to the innings, as they removed both the openers in back to back overs for decent scores.

Allah Noor played some decent shots and scored 25 runs whereas Abdul Hadi added 37 runs from 97 balls that included 3 fours and a six. Noor Ahmad scored 30 runs by coming down the order and helped his team to post a decent total of 134 runs on the board. Vinuja Ranpul got 5 wickets under his belt.

Chasing the target posted by the opposition, Sri Lanka Under 19 opened the innings with Chamindu Wickramasinghe and Sadisha Rajapaksha. However, Afghanisthan Under 19 also got the expected start with the ball, as they removed the top-order batters for cheap numbers.

Chamindu Wickramasinghe scored 16 runs before being run out. The middle-order of Sri Lanka didn't perform up to the expectations and warmed the bench with single-digit numbers.

However, the lower-order batters tried their level best to stay alive in the game as the skipper Dunith Wellalage scored 34 runs for his team. Following him, Raveen de Silva also contributed with the bat and scored 21 runs from 84 balls.

In the end, Afghanisthan Under 19 just needed one wicket and won the match by 4 runs. It will give a lot of confidence to the Afghan youngsters as they fight till the end of the game and won it for their nation. With that win, Afghanistan Under 19 will face the table-toppers England Under 19 in the Super League Semi-final on 1st February, Tuesday.
