Yash Dhull smashes hundred on Ranji Trophy debut, joins the elite list with Sachin Tendulkar

 

The skipper of the Indian U19 team that has won the recently concluded ICC U19 World Cup has once again grabbed the spotlight in his Ranji debut game against Tamil Nadu.

It was the first match of the tournament for both Delhi and Tamil Nadu which has just kicked off today at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. Vijay Shankar, the skipper of the Tamil Nadu cricket team has won the toss and asked the opposition to bat first.

Yash Dhull and Dhruv Shorey opened the innings for Delhi. Sandeep Warrier provided the first breakthrough earlier in the innings for Tamil Nadu, removing the 29-year-old batter for a single run.

Himmat Singh came in at number three and followed Dhruv Shorey on the very first ball he faced. After that, Nitish Rana joined with the youngster and added 60 runs for the third wicket partnership before being dismissed for 25 runs.

After the dismissal of Nitish Rana, Jonty Sidhu joined with Yash Dhull and played extremely well and dominated the opposition bowlers all around the park. Both the batters completed their fifty and continued to overwhelm the bowlers where they left.

Yash Dhull and Jonty Sidhu added 119 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Yash Dhull goes back to the dressing room after being dismissed by Mohammed for 113 runs.

However, Yash Dhull becomes the third cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar and Prithvi Shaw hit a century on Ranji debut game. Despite his show with the bat, fans were not happy with the LBW decision given by the umpire to the youngster.

Hence, Delhi has scored 291 runs at the end of Day 1 and Lalit Yadav Simarjeet Singh have remained unbeaten on 45 and 16 runs respectively. They will look forward to aggregating some more runs on the board for their side.
