IPL 2022, KKR vs MI: Watch - Ajinkya Rahane confidently asks Sam Billings to not go for the catch but later drops it, Umesh Yadav is left frustrated

After defeating Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders faced off Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians in their fourth match in this tournament on 6th April, Wednesday. Winning the toss, the skipper of Kolkata Knight Riders, Shreyas Iyer opted to bowl.

Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan opened the innings for Mumbai Indians but Umesh Yadav and Rasikh Salam kept the first few overs very tight as both the batters didn't get any boundary against them.

However, Dewald Brevis came in after the dismissal of Rohit Sharma and scored 29 runs for his team. Then Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma fought hard in the middle and rebuild the innings for Mumbai Indians as Kieron Pollard finished the first half in style.

In the end, Mumbai Indians posted a quite challenging total of 161 runs on the board. Chasing the target posted by the opposition, Kolkata Knight Riders opened the innings with Ajinkya Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer but didn't get the start that they expected in this game as well.

Pat Cummins creates a new record:

IPL 2022 - Kolkata Knight Riders - Pat Cummins

The left-handed batsman Venkatesh Iyer has seen struggling in this match as well, remaining unbeaten on 50 runs facing 41 balls. The middle-order of Kolkata Knight Riders has been collapsed but Pat Cummins changed the fortunes for his franchise and smashed the joint-fastest fifty with KL Rahul in just 14 balls.

In the end, his fiery knock of 56 off 16 balls which includes 4 fours and 6 sixes helped KKR to beat Mumbai Indians with 5 wickets in hand.

However, during the first half of the match, Ajinkya Rahane and Sam Billings messed up for a catch as Ajinkya Rahane wanted to take that one but later dropped it. KKR fans were not happy with the show that Rahane displayed on the field.

Besides, Pat Cummins shared a few words in the post-match presentation and said, "I probably think I'm most surprised by that innings. I'm glad that it came off.

I was thinking of having a swing if it was in my area. Wasn't trying to overthink it. Very satisfying to do it on my first game this season," Pat Cummins was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

"Was just trying to pepper the shorter boundary. The hard thing after a big auction is that there are a lot of changes from last year. It's a good mix of talent out there and quite relaxed with the boys," Cummins added.
