ENG vs NZ, 2nd Test Live: Watch - Joe Root plays a fabulous cover drive off Matt Henry

 

After getting defeated by England in the first Test at Lord's, New Zealand has once again up against the hosts in the 2nd Test. Coming to the game, the skipper of England, Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to take the field.

Batting first, New Zealand posted a huge total of 553 runs on the board. Daryl Mitchell has once again proved his worth with the bat by scoring 190 runs and he was the last dismissal for England.

Tom Blundell also played well for his side and added a crucial partnership with Daryl Mitchell when New Zealand suffered 4 wickets for 169 runs.

Both the batters put a 236 runs stand between them before Tom Blundell was dismissed for 106 runs by Jack Leach. Will Young and Devon Conway had decent contributions with the bat, scoring 47 and 46 runs respectively.

 And, coming down the order, Michael Bracewell missed his fifty by just one run as he handed over a simple catch to Joe Root. With a huge score on the board, England scored 473 runs losing five of their batters at the end of the third day of the game.

After the early dismissal of Zak Crawley, Alex Lees and Ollie Pope played well in the top order and added 141 runs for the second wicket partnership before Matt Henry removes Alex Lees for 67 runs.

Then Joe Root joined with Ollie Pope and both the batters went high on the opposition bowlers and dominated them all around the park. For the third wicket, both the batters added 187 runs before Ollie Pope walks back to the pavilion for 145 runs.

The skipper of the side, Ben Stokes also removed by Michael Bracewell for 46 runs. However, Joe Root has once again played a fabulous game for his team, as he remains unbeaten on the crease with 163 runs along with Ben Foakes. Besides, the right-handed batter played a fabulous cover drive off Matt Henry and the shot was enjoyed by the fans.
