BAN vs SL, 1st Test: Watch - Heartbreaking moment as Angelo Mathews missed his 200 by just one run

 

The 1st Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka is going on at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, Bangladesh. Winning the toss, Sri Lanka opted to bat but didn't get the start that they expected from their openers.

The skipper of the side, Dimuth Karunaratne had to depart earlier after being dismissed by Nayeem Hasan for 9 runs. The right-arm spinner also removed Oshado Fernando for 36 runs.

Then Angelo Mathews joined with Kusal Mendis, as both the batters scored important runs in the middle for their side. But this time, Taijul Islam got his first prey, dismissing well-settled Kusal Mendis for 54 runs.

After that, Dhananjaya de Silva couldn't manage to face the likes of the opposition bowlers and returned to the dressing room with a single-digit score. Then Dinesh Chandimal came into the middle and stood strong with Angelo Mathews who was continuously scoring runs from the other end.

Both Dinesh Chandimal and Angelo Mathews added 136 runs for the partnership before Chandimal departs for 66 runs. Angelo Mathews didn't get enough support from the lower-order batters as Sri Lanka has been bowled out by the opposition for 397 runs.

Angelo Mathews missed his well-deserved 200 by just one run, as he was caught by Shakib al Hasan off Nayeem Hasan. It was a heartbreaking moment for both Sri Lankan and their fans, as the right-handed batter missed his double hundred by just one run.

With 397 runs in the trial, Bangladesh opened the innings with Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Tamim Iqbal. Both the batters gave a fabulous start to the innings and added 162 runs for the opening wicket partnership.

Asitha Fernando provided the first breakthrough for Sri Lanka by sending back Mahmudul Hasan Joy for 58 runs. After his dismissal, Najmul Hossain Shanto has been dismissed by Kasun Rajitha for just one run.

Following him, the right-arm pacer also got the wicket of the opposition skipper Mominul Haque. Tamil Iqbal is looking strong on one end, having scored 123 runs for his team.
