Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar who has quite often chipped in with interesting cricketing opinions about India has one important thing to tell about MS Dhoni’s batting position at World Cup 2019. According to Sachin, MS Dhoni should bat at No.5 so much so that the balance of the team would be inch perfect.
“My personal opinion is Dhoni should be batting five. I still don’t know what the team combination would be, but if you are going Rohit and Shikhar as openers, to Virat (Kohli) at number 3 and whoever at number 4 then Dhoni could be No. 5,” ESPN Cricinfo quoted Tendulkar as saying.
According to Sachin, Indian team has a deep batting line-up so that even after MS Dhoni, Hardik Pandya could prove to be lethal in the death overs. If Dhoni gets alongside Hardik, then it could turn out be biggest plus for India at the World Cup.
“Then Hardik Pandya, an explosive player, follows them. That way the experienced batsmen are well spaced out and Dhoni can stretch the game towards the end where he himself can be explosive along with Hardik,” he added.
The former Indian cricketer also picked the teams which he firmly believes will make the cut into the semi-finals of the premier tournament. He is certain that India, England and Australia would be in the semis in the games to come but he is tad hesitant about the fourth spot and which he is he picked New Zealand or Pakistan.
“India, England, Australia should be in the semis. The fourth could be one of New Zealand or Pakistan,” he added.
India will kick-start their World Cup 2019 campaign against South Africa on June 5 in England and Wales at the Rose Bowl Cricket Ground.
