"We’ll have to wait and see till the Mumbai game" - Ajinkya Rahane

The first Test match between India and New Zealand has started on 25th November in Kanpur and ended up in a draw. The Rahane-led side fought hard till the final day of the match but somehow New Zealand draw the match after losing 9 wickets against India.

Rachin Ravindra and Ajaz Patel were the only batters left in the crease who struggled a lot against the spin trio Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel and Ravindra Patel. Notably, there were many questions raised during the 4th day of the match when India declared the innings.

Shreyas Iyer and Wriddhiman Saha fought hard for India and helped their side to give a competitive target for the visitors. After the end of the match, Ajinkya Rahane has shared a lot of things about the match and shared his views in the post-match presentation.

"Not really, we tried our best. They played really well. I think the way we came back in the second session was good. The fast bowlers too bowled really well. We wanted to get that partnership going, put some runs on board. Saha and Axar batted really well.

Before that Shreyas and Ashwin’s partnership was crucial. We wanted to bowl four overs yesterday and 90-95 in all. I don’t think we could have done anything differently," Ajinya Rahane said.

Moreover, the on-field umpires and players had a chat on several occasions during the game. The Indian skipper also throw some words about it and said, "The chat with the umpires was about the light. As a fielding team, you want to bowl more overs, as a batting unit you don’t want to bat in that situation. The chat was about the light, but umpires made the call and I thought they were right."

Talking about the debutant Shreyas Iyer, the right-hander was impressed by his top-class batting in both innings. After being asked about his performance, Rahane asserted, "I am really happy for Shreyas. He had to wait a long time for his Test debut. He batted really well. The way he works, his record in first-class cricket is really good. Virat is coming back for the next game. We’ll have to wait and see till the Mumbai game. I am not going to make any comments but the management will make a call."
