Sanju Samson receives fine of INR 24 lakhs for slow over-rate

 

The Kerala born cricketer Sanju Samson is currently leading the Rajasthan Royals franchise in the Indian Premier League. During the game against Delhi Capitals, the right-handed batsman has and his team members have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate. Talking about the game, Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan faced off each other at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

The skipper of Rajasthan Royals, Sanju Samson had won the toss and decided to field first. Kartik Tyagi and Chetan Sakariya gave the expected start for Rajasthan Royals as they removed Shihar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw for cheap scores. After that, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant added some crucial runs in the middle before the wicket-keeper being sent back to the pavilion by Mustafizur Rahman.

Following him, Sanju Samson removed the dangerous Shreyas Iyer who was looking in good form with the bat. He went back to the dressing room after scoring 43 off 32 deliveries. Then Shimron Hetymer played a quick cameo and added 28 runs from 16 balls before being dismissed by Mustafizur Rahman.

Sanju Samson fined for maintaining slow over-rate:

At the end of the first half, Delhi Capitals posted a challenging total of 154 runs on the board. The bowling attack of Delhi Capitals has also given the expected start for their side. Avesh Khan and Anrich Nortje removed Liam Livingstone and Yashasvi Jaiswal for single-digit scores.

But Sanju Samson stood strong on one end and guided his team in the chase. Mahipal Lomror played a decent cameo and scored 19 runs. The rest of the middle-order batsmen failed to cross the single-digit mark against the Delhi bowling alley. 

Sanju Samson remained unbeaten on 70 which ended in a losing cause. Besides, Sanju Samson has been fined INR 24 lakhs after maintaining a slow over-rate in the first half of the game. The other ten players have been fined 25 per cent of their match fees which is lesser than INR 6 lakhs. 


BCCI said, "The Rajasthan Royals have been fined after they maintained a slow over-rate during their VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match against Delhi Capitals at the Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi on September 25." 

"As it was the team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to a minimum over-rate offences, Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson was fined ₹24 lakhs," BCCI added.
