Rangana Herath comes to Bangladesh as a spin advisor for the New Zealand tour

Rangana Herath strengthens the Bangladesh team as a spin advisor for the New Zealand tour. Akram Khan, BCB's cricket operations chief, said Rangana Herath will join the Bangladesh test team as spin advisor for the upcoming two-game test series in New Zealand.

Akram Khan, BCB's cricket operations chief, said Rangana Herath will join the Bangladesh test team as spin advisor for the upcoming two-game test series in New Zealand. The BCB has signed him for a two-year term.

The former Sri Lankan weirdo, who initially signed a contract until the end of the T20 World Cup in the UAE and Oman, is not part of the coaching staff for the ongoing test series against Pakistan.

"He (Herath) is traveling to New Zealand and will be part of the team management team during the two-game test series," Akram told Cricbuzz.

The opening test is scheduled to take place on January 1st at the Bay Oval in Tauranga. The second test will take place on January 9th. Due to the easing of quarantine in New Zealand, Bangladesh will also be given the opportunity to play a couple of two-day practice games.

Meanwhile, Akram added that they have added vacant Fazle Mahmud Rabbi to the 18-man squad for the upcoming tour to replace Shakib Al Hasan.

BCB had previously granted the leading all-rounder a vacation after informing her about his unavailability for the tour, citing family commitments. Rabbi averaged 603 runs in 11 innings, an average of 60.30 in the newly concluded National Cricket League - the country's traditional top-tier competition.

"Fazle Mahmud will replace Shakib on the test team and we decided to take him on as he is one of the home runs," said Akram.
