Jonny Bairstow responds to Sunil Gavaskar's comment of "uninterested" after winning the 2nd ODI

England's opening batsman Jonny Bairstow came up with a reply for Sunil Gavaskar after winning the second match against India. The legendary cricketer had criticized the English cricketer during the Test series between these two teams where he said "What’s he trying to do? First ball, he should be looking to play a soft defensive shot. There is a fielder there at backward short leg. Uninterested."

"You have not scored a run, and just come in and pushed at it, as if there was no fielder at backward short leg. It looked to me as if it was the shot of a person uninterested," the 71-year-old added.

Jonny Bairstow responded to his comments after winning the match and said "First of all, no, I hadn’t heard that and secondly, I am interested as to how opinion can have been made especially when there has been no correspondence and communication between myself and him."

"So he is more than welcome to give me a ring and I will speak to him about my will to do well in Test cricket and the enjoyment I do get out of playing Test cricket. As I said, my phone is on. If he wants, he can call or message me," he added.

Asking about their batting strength Bairstow said "We have Adil Rashid coming in at 10 or 11. Adil on his own rights has got 10 first-class hundreds. To have that kind of player coming in at 10 or 11, not many teams around the world have that.

If you couple that with the power-hitters in Moeen Ali, Curran brothers, the list can go on. So yeah, definitely does give you a lot of confidence knowing that the batting lineup is strong," the 31-year-old said during the virtual press conference.

Can India win the ODI series against England?

India won the first match and failed to maintain the same momentum in the second game. The Virat Kohli-led side will be thinking about winning the 3rd and final match whereas their opposition would be thinking the same.

Jos Buttler led his side in the absence of Eoin Morgan who had suffered an injury in the 1st ODI. India on the other hand had seemed to struggle in the middle due to the lack of bowling options they had.

Hardik Pandya is not bowling in the ODI series as Virat Kohli wants him in the England tour which is going to commence after the completion of IPL. Let's wait and see that who's going to win the final match on Sunday.
