BCCI has announced an 18-member squad for the South Africa Test series; Shubman Gill dropped

 

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has come up with a piece of exciting news on 8th December, Wednesday. They have officially announced the 18-member squad ahead of the upcoming Test series against South Africa.

The tour is compromised of three Tests and three ODIs that is going to kick off from 26th December, Sunday. However, the longest format of the game is likely to be kicked off on 17th December, but both the boards had to postpone it after consistent raise of the new variant of Covid-19, Omicron.

The first Test between these two teams will be played at the SuperSport Park in Centurion. The remaining two games will be held at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg that followed by Newlands in Cape Town. 

BCCI is yet to announce the ODI squad for the South Africa series:

Rohit Sharma

Though Ajinkya Rahane was not in the good form with the bat, BCCI has once again allowed him to don the white jersey in the three-match Test series against South Africa.

Hanuma Vihari who has been added to India A squad that turned South Africa A this month has been included in the squad after being dropped from the home Test series against New Zealand.

Moreover, the selectors are yet to announce the squad for the three-match ODI series against the Proteas. In addition to that, Virat Kohli who announced that he will step down from the T20I captaincy has also stepped down from the ODI leadership as well.

Considering the recent reports, Rohit Sharma will be the skipper of Team India for the ODI series which is going to commence on January 19th. Talking about the points table of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23, India is currently relying on the third spot with three wins from seven games.

Virat Kohli (Captain), Rohit Sharma (Vice-Captain), KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Mayank Agarwal, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (Wicket-keeper), Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav, Hanuma Vihari, Wriddhiman Saha (Wicket-keeper), Jayant Yadav, Shardul Thakur.
