Abid Ali & Abdullah Shafique write history with successive century stands

Pakistan's test opening worries the national team as multiple combinations have failed to perform as required internationally. While the previous inaugural partnerships have not been consistently delivered, Pakistan's new couple Abid Ali and Abdullah Shafique have put in exceptional performances in their first game together.

Both opening games got Pakistan off to a solid start at the top of the rankings as they struck two centuries of partnerships in as many innings against Bangladesh.

The opening players scored 146 in the first innings as Abdullah scored half a century in his debut innings while Abid scored a century. The two players are currently unbeaten with a total of 109 teams in the second innings as both have passed their half-century.

This is only the second time in Pakistani history that the openers have a century stand in each of the two innings of the Test. The first instance came in 2003 when Imran Farhat and Taufeeq Umar scored a century stand in both innings against South Africa in Lahore.

The two opening games will continue the innings on the fifth and final day of the test match, with Pakistan needing another 93 runs with 10 wickets in hand to win the first two-game test of the series. Abid currently hits 56 while Abdullah only hits 53 in his second innings in Test cricket.
