"It would be a real surprise if his name doesn’t figure in the squad" - Sunil Gavaskar

The former Indian cricketer and one of the greatest cricketers, Sunil Gavaskar has claimed that he would be surprised if Sarfaraz Khan didn't include him in India's squad after the rescheduled Test series against England.

The 24-year-old batter has been the top run-getter for Mumbai in the recently concluded Ranji Trophy. He mustered 982 runs after getting out to bat in nine innings that he played at an average of well above 122.

Moreover, his prolific season included 4 centuries and 2 half-centuries to his name. Following him, Rajat Patidar has been the other best batter who has amassed 658 runs as it clearly shows that Sarfaraz Khan was in fabulous form this season.

Moreover, the former Indian skipper, Dilip Vengsarkar has also wanted the selectors to give an opportunity for the 24-year-old in the longest format of the game.

Keep his place in the team: Sunil Gavaskar

Sarfaraz Khan

Sunil Gavaskar has written a lot in his column on Mid-Day, "Sarfaraz Khan's tremendous run of hundreds should bring him into contention for a place in the national team where with (Ajinkya) Rahane gone and (Cheteshwar) Pujara getting one last chance to score and keep his place in the team and go on to play a century of Test matches the door could open for Sarfaraz."

"He certainly has banged the selection committee’s door down and it would be a real surprise if his name doesn’t figure in the squad for the next Test series.

There are some others too like Rajat Patidar who has also been tremendously consistent in what has been a breakthrough season for him. India are blessed to have such talent which is keeping the seniors on their toes and ensuring there is no room for complacency at all," added Sunil Gavaskar.

Likewise, Sarfaraz Khan, Rajat Patidar has also looked in good form in this Ranji Trophy season, as he piled up 658 runs that he played at an average of well around 83, smashing 2 centuries and 5 half-centuries for his team.
