"Ishan will open the innings with me unless there is an injury" - Rohit Sharma

The newly appointed captain for the limited-overs cricket, Rohit Sharma has shared a lot of things during the press conference ahead of the 1st ODI against West Indies.

The first ODI between India and West Indies is going to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 6th February, Sunday. Moreover, as there have been some players isolated after being affected by the Covid-19, Rohit Sharma confirmed that Ishan Kishan is going to open with him.

Moreover, he also said a few things about the chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav who is making his comeback into the side after quite a long time. In addition to that, fans were eager to witness the spin duo Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal once again in the Indian team.

Speaking in the press conference, Rohit Sharma said, "Kuldeep and Chahal have been great performers for us in the past and they have created an impact in those years whenever they have played together, in the middle they were left out because of the combination we wanted to get. It is certainly on my mind to get them back together, Kuldeep especially."

"We want to get Kuldeep in slowly, we do not want him to be rushed. It is important to give him some time to come into his own groove, we do not want to put him in a situation where we are asking too much from him also," he added.

"I think for us, it is important that we handle the situation carefully. Both these players are important. Chahal played in South Africa and Kuldeep has just gotten back into the squad. Kuldeep needs to play a lot of games to get his rhythm back and we understand that," said Rohit Sharma.

When asked about the opening combination, the right-handed batsman revealed that he will open the innings with Ishan Kishan, as he said, "Ishan Kishan will open the innings with me. He is the only option we are left with. Mayank Agarwal was added to the squad but, he is still in quarantine according to the rules that’ve been set."

Also, Rohit Sharma hilariously trolled the journalist when he asked about giving opportunities for the youngsters and Rohit Sharma replied, "So you want Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad to open and the innings and me and Shikhar to sit on the bench."
