IND vs WI: Shikhar Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shreyas Iyer among the 7 to test positive for Covid-19

 

After getting defeated by South Africa in the recently concluded ODI series, India is up against Kieron Pollard-led West Indies in the upcoming tour. West Indies touring India for a three-match ODI series and three-match T20I series which is going to kick start from 6th February, Sunday.

The first ODI between India and West Indies is going to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad behind closed doors. However, Eden Gardens in Kolkata will have 75 percent of the fans as the government of West Bengal has permitted to conclude the T20I with the support of the fans.

However, considering the recent reports from other sources, 8 Indian cricketers have tested positive for Covid-19 including Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer and Ruturaj Gaikwad.

According to the reports released by BCCI in a press release, it added, "The All-India Senior Selection Committee has added Mayank Agarwal to India’s ODI squad after seven members, including three players of Team India tested positive for COVID-19 following three rounds of RT-PCR testing.

The members were asked to report in Ahmedabad on 31st January 2022 for the upcoming Paytm three-match ODI and T20I series against the West Indies."

"Every member was also asked to undergo an RT-PCR test at home before embarking on their journey to Ahmedabad and the travel was undertaken only after testing negative.

Opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan and fast bowler Navdeep Saini’s (standby player) RT-PCR tests conducted on Monday (January 31st) have returned positive results. Fielding Coach T," the BCCI said in the release.

"Dilip and Security Liaison Officer B. Lokesh’s RT-PCR tests conducted on Monday (January 31st) have returned positive results. Batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad’s RT-PCR test conducted on Tuesday (February 1st) has returned a positive result. He had tested negative during the first round of testing on Monday.

Batsman Shreyas Iyer and Sports Massage Therapist Rajeev Kumar’s RT-PCR tests conducted on Wednesday (February 2nd) have returned positive results. Both had tested negative in the first two rounds of testing," it clarified.
