Suresh Raina believes Rishabh Pant will be 'talismanic leader'

 

The former Indian batsman, Suresh Raina feels that Rishabh Pant will be a 'talismanic leader' for Delhi Capitals in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). 

The wicket-keeper was appointed as the skipper following Shreyas Iyer's shoulder injury. Iyer dislocated his left shoulder during the 2nd ODI game against England. 

Rishabh Pant has been brilliant as a batsman since the Australian tour. The Delhi-based IPL franchise decided to give him the captaincy role after his consistency with the bat.

The left-handed batsman, Suresh Raina who will be playing for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2021, believes that the wicket-keeper will do captaincy very well in IPL 2021. 

He wrote, "Heartiest congratulations to @RishabhPant17 on being named the captain of @DelhiCapitals for this season. I am sure he will be a talismanic leader and will be donning this new cap with pride."


Despite having the likes of Steve Smith, Ajinkya Rahane, Ravi Ashwin and Shikhar Dhawan in the squad, they decided to back Pant for the captaincy role.

Rishabh Pant was happy after being named as the skipper of the Delhi Capitals. It was a dream come true moment for him as he grew up in the same city. 

"Delhi is where I grew up and where my IPL journey began six years ago. To lead this team one day is a dream I've always harboured."

"And today, as that dream comes true, I feel humbled. I am truly grateful, especially to our team owners, who considered me capable enough for this"role."

The Delhi Capitals will start their campaign against Chennai Super Kings on 10th April at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
