IPL 2021: CSK likely to miss the game against Rajasthan Royals

The ongoing season of the Indian Premier League had a blockbuster start but it has been hit by the COVID-19 scare. Despite being in the strict biosecure bubble, as many as 9 positive cases were reported.

This included two players from Kolkata Knight Riders - Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier. As a result, the BCCI decided to postpone the game between Kolkata and Bangalore which was scheduled to play on 3rd March.

Similarly, there were three positive cases in the Chennai Super Kings camp. However, it was confirmed that only two were affected - Lakshmipathy Balaji and a bus driver.

Further, there were five groundstaff who have tested positive coronavirus at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. With the COVID cases increasing day by day in the IPL camp, the chances of playing the remaining games are not easy.

CSK to not play tomorrow's game against RR:

As per the reports, the Chennai Super Kings informed the BCCI that they will not play their next game against the Rajasthan Royals. If the reports are to be believed, CSK's next game against Rajasthan will be postponed.

“The CSK coach is asymptomatic. However, as per the BCCI’s Covid protocols, everybody who has come in contact with him will have to undergo a six-day quarantine. We can’t play our next game (against Rajasthan Royals). The BCCI knows about the testing protocols and how many tests need to become negative before an all-clear is given. We have communicated it to the BCCI. They will have to reschedule the game between CSK and Rajasthan Royals,” a CSK official told The Indian Express.

The BCCI is now planning to move all the games to Mumbai to avoid more travel. “Coming to the league itself, we are looking at moving base to Mumbai, but are awaiting clearance from the Maharashtra government and once that is done, we will be good to go. Should take us another couple of days to get the clearance,” a BCCI official said.

Even though yesterday's game between KKR and RCB was rescheduled, today's match between Mumbai and Hyderabad likely to happen. Chennai's next game will be against Hyderabad on 7th May.
