IPL 2021: Chennai Super Kings call up two uncapped Sri Lankan bowlers for training camp
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had a poor season last year as they finished at 7th place. Their batting form was not great and taking the chases deep did not help them.
CSK's bowling attack was not good as their bowlers like Piyush Chawla, Karn Sharma went for too many runs. With no batsman able to perform consistently throughout the tournament, they disappointed their fans last season.
But, this year, they released the former Australian, Shane Watson who announced his retirement from the IPL as well. They bought the likes of Moeen Ali, Cheteshwar Pujara and K Gowtham at the auction. They also acquired the services of Robin Uthappa in the trade window.
CSK call up Maheesh Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirana
The upcoming season of the IPL set to begin on April 9. While all the franchises have started their training camp, CSK also has started to prepare for the tournament.
Ahead of the training camp, the MS Dhoni-led franchise called up two uncapped Sri Lankan players - Maheesh Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirana. They will be with the CSK squad as the reserve player but can make it to the main squad in case of injuries to an overseas player.
While Pathirana is a fast bowler who has the bowling style of legendary Lasith Malinga, Theekshana is a right-arm off-spinner who was part of the Jaffna Stallions in the LPL. They will fly to India once they receive NOC from Sri Lanka Cricket Board.
