Dale Steyn gets emotional in live show after Shivam Mavi calls the SA speedster his idol

 

Dale Steyn was seen in tears when the Indian pacer, Shivam Mavi called him an idol. Steyn, who has troubled each and every batsman during his time, has played in almost every part of the world. 

It is always special to be someone's idol especially in the game of cricket. The cricket experts like Akash Chopra and Dale Steyn hosting the 'T20 Timeout' show in ESPNCricinfo. 

During the show, the former South African pacer, Dale Steyn was seen in tears after Kolkata Knight Riders' fast-bowler Shivam Mavi called him an idol. 

The young pacer from India has done extremely well in junior cricket for his country. He has an ability to bowl with good pace and has wicket-taking skills as well. 

The 22-year-old opened up how he used to follow the former South African in his childhood days. Even though he has been following Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah a lot, Dale Steyn has always been his idol.

“Ever since I began playing the sport, I used to follow Dale Steyn very closely. When I started bowling, I used to be able to bowl outswingers and I used to follow Dale Steyn while trying to learn how to bowl," Mavi said. 

"I follow the tactics of some other bowlers too, such as Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar, but my idol has always been Dale Steyn,” the young pacer concluded. 

After hearing such words from the young Indian pacer, Steyn was left with tears. He said that he never expected that he would be an idol for the youngsters living in different parts of the world. 

“It’s pretty amazing. Almost like he brings a tear to my eyes, to be honest with you, I am not going to lie. I never expected to play this game and have an impact on people that live at opposite ends of the world. I still play, which is still great, I still love playing.”

“But, that’s amazing. I hope that he (Mavi) can push on and these kinds of performances will get him into teams that he wants to play for, India, and also play a bigger part for Kolkata. I would love to get in touch with him at some point, that would be a dream come true for me too,” concluded Steyn.
