Warner, Matthews win Player of the Month awards for November

Australia's opener David Warner and West Indies all-rounder Hayley Matthews were named ICC Player of the Month for November.

Warner, who was nominated for ICC Player of the Month along with Pakistani Abid Ali and New Zealander Tim Southee, emerged as the winner with the most votes after his pivotal role in Australia's triumph at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2021.

Warner was the player of the tournament for the marquee event after a series of impressive displays helped Australia win the title. In total, he scored 289 runs in seven games with an average of 48.16 and a hit rate of 146.70. Four of them came in the period considered for the award, in which he scored 209 runs with a staggering hit rate of 151.44.

He scored half a century in the final against New Zealand, a decisive 49 in the semifinals against Pakistan, and was named Player of the Game in the Super 12 duel against the West Indies when he cracked an unbeaten 89.

“David was in top form again during the T20 World Cup and his aggression at the top of the ranking was overwhelming,” said Russel Arnold, member of the voting committee. “His 209 runs with a hit rate of 151 in four innings just tell the story. There was no recovery from Warner's early attack and his stroke play was pleasing to the eye. "

Matthews won the women's award against Anam Amin from Pakistan and Nahida Akter from Bangladesh.

In four ODIs in November - three in the bilateral series against Pakistan and one in the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier against Ireland - Matthews scored 141 runs and won nine wickets, including a stunning 4/26 against Pakistan in Karachi.

This is the second time Matthews has been nominated for Player of the Month award - she last competed for the award in July when West Indies captain Stafanie Taylor won the award.

"Hayley was the star of the tournament, playing with both racket and ball," said Irfan Pathan, member of the voting committee. "Her overall performance was one of the reasons the West Indies beat Pakistan and she deserves to be women's player of the month."
