India announced T20I squad for New Zealand series

India's 15-man squad for the forthcoming home series against New Zealand has been declared by the BCCI. For the upcoming series against New Zealand, India's new T20I captain is Rohit Sharma.

The 15-man team for India's forthcoming home series against New Zealand was declared by the BCCI on Tuesday (November 9). New T20I captain Rohit Sharma has replaced Virat Kohli as India's T20I skipper after the team's withdrawal from the T20 World Cup in 2021. For the November 25-29 match at Green Park in Kanpur, India's first Test against New Zealand will be without Kohli.

Rohit Sharma, the Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper who has won five Indian Premier League (IPL) championships, was widely expected to succeed Virat Kohli as India's T20I captain. Rohit's first full-time T20I captaincy assignment will be India's forthcoming series against New Zealand, which includes three T20s and two Tests.

"That's never going to change. If I can't do that I will not play anymore. Even when I wasn't captain before I was always keen to see where the game is going. I'm not going to stand around and do nothing," Kohli said during the presentation ceremony after India's facile nine-wicket win in their last match at the T20 World Cup

He intimated that Sharma will be the next T20I skipper after India's victory over Namibia.. Kohli said he felt a feeling of relief after winning his last match and added that now was the ideal moment to step down as captain so that he could better manage his workload.

"As I said it's been an honour, but things have to be kept in the right perspective. This was the right time for me to manage my workload. It's been six-seven years of intense cricket every time we take the field and it takes a lot out of you. It's been great fun, great bunch of guys and we've really performed well as a team," Kohli said.
