Aussies Skipper Pat Cummins confirms Australia XI for day-night test

Australian captain Pat Cummins has confirmed that his team will only make one change for the second test.

On the eve of the game, Cummins announced to the press that Jhye Richardson would replace the injured Josh Hazlewood and assist David Warner to help him get through the pain at Adelaide Oval.

Warner was in doubt for the second Test after suffering badly bruised ribs in the Ashes opener at the gabba, but Australia are confident the determined left-hander will be right.

Richardson won the selection race against Michael Neser, with the Queenslanders' long wait for a test debut continuing.

Blessed with the ability to move the ball at a serious pace, Richardson's two Tests so far both came in 2019 with a string of injuries that have hampered his career since then.

The fast one left his mark on both of his missions and won six wickets at 8:50 p.m. against Sri Lanka. He was in serious shape this summer at Sheffield Shield, Australia, with 23 wickets at 1:43 this season.

Warner's inclusion means Usman Khawaja is awaiting a test return after last playing at the 2019 Ashes.

"He's going to be right," said Cummins of Warner. "He had a racket yesterday that was hit by a little discomfort, but knowing Davey he won't miss this one. As soon as adrenaline and everything kicks in, (he'll) be a little sore, but he'll be fine."

“It's one thing to hit the nets, but it's another when you go out and the crowd is full. I don't think he had any painkillers or anything like that yesterday.

"He's played almost 90 tests, I'm sure a lot of them have been played with discomfort or with (cracks). He'll be fine tomorrow."

Australia XI: Marcus Harris, David Warner, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Cameron Green, Alex Carey (wk), Pat Cummins (c), Mitch Starc, Nathan Lyon, Jhye Richardson
