IPL 2022: 3 teams that might go for Shreyas Iyer in the mega auction

 

The Mumbai-born batsman Shreyas Iyer is one of the talented cricketers to have featured in the Indian Premier League. Shreyas Iyer his IPL career with the then Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in IPL 2015.

In his first season, he made a bold statement by smashing 439 runs that he played at an average of well around 34. However, one of the toughest challenges that Iyer had was in IPL 2018 when Gautam Gambhir stepped down from the captaincy after getting back to back defeats.

After that, he led his franchise to reach the playoffs in 2019 and also did it in the next year as they had to face the strongest side Mumbai Indians which ended in a one-sided contest.

As of now, Shreyas Iyer has been released by the Delhi Capitals ahead of the mega auction of IPL 2022. So, let's have a look at the three teams that can bid for the right-handed batsman in the mega auction.

Likewise, Shreyas Iyer, the Punjab Kings has also been in the talks with KL Rahul to retain him ahead of the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. But KL Rahul asked the management to release him as he wants to go to the mega auction.

As of now, he has been roped by the newly added franchise Lucknow Super Giants and will lead the side along with Marcus Stoinis and co. However, Punjab Kings have retained Mayank Agarwal and Arshdeep Singh for the next season they would like to rope Shreyas Iyer who can bat in the top-order and can also lead the side.

One of the favourite teams around the globe, Royal Challengers has the likes of the former Indian skipper Virat Kohli and the Australian star Glenn Maxwell on their side.

Despite having some top-class batters like Aaron Finch, Chris Gayle, AB de Villiers, the Bangalore based franchise failed to clinch the title even after getting into the finals three times. Besides, as Virat Kohli has stepped down from the leadership, Shreyas Iyer might be roped by the team as he can bat in the middle-order as well.

The finalists of IPL 2021, Kolkata Knight Riders have retained Venkatesh Iyer, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy for the next season.

Moreover, they also released English cricketer Eoin Morgan who led them to the finals where they lost the match against the Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings. Now, like other teams, Kolkata Knight Riders is also looking for a skipper and Shreyas Iyer will be a great option for them.
