ENG vs NZ: Watch - Joe Root creates a magical moment by making his bat stand without any support at Lord's

 

The newly-appointed skipper Ben Stokes-led England went on to clash with New Zealand at the Lord's. Coming to the game, Kane Williamson won the toss and decided to bat first. Tom Latham and Will Young opened the innings for New Zealand. 

Both the batters have been dismissed by James Anderson for just one run. After that, Stuart Broad got the wicket of Devon Conway. Following him, the skipper of the side, Kane Williamson has been dismissed by Matty Potts for just two runs.

The right-arm pacer continued by domination over the opposition bowlers by picking up the wicket of Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell for 13 and 14 runs. Despite losing back to back wickets, Colin de Grandhomme stood strong on one end and added some valuable runs on the board.

Tim Southee has been decent with the bat in the lower order as he scored valuable 26 runs for his side. With some decent contribution from the lower order batters, New Zealand managed to post a total of 132 runs on the board.

Colin de Grandhomme remained unbeaten on 42 runs. James Anderson once again showed his class with the ball by picking up 4 wickets for his team. Matty Potts has also bowled well for his team, as he also grabbed 4 wickets for his side. Stuart Broad and Ben Stokes grabbed one wicket each to their name.

Joe Root's match-winning century:

Coming out to bat, Alex Lees and Zak Crawley opened the innings for their side. Both the batters provided a good start for their side, adding 59 runs for the opening wicket before Kyle Jamieson removed Zak Crawley for 43 runs.

He continued his spell and got the wicket of Ollie Pope as well. Following him, Joe Root has been sent back to the dressing room after scoring 11 runs. Tim Southee has removed Alex Lees, who was looked almost well-settled on the crease for 25 runs.

Tim Southee went on to remove the opposition skipper Ben Stokes for a single-digit score. In the end, England scored 141 runs at the end of their first inning. In the second inning of New Zealand, James Anderson and Matty Potts once again provided the start for their side, by sending back the top-order batters for cheap numbers.

However, Daryl Mitchell and Tom Blundell stood strong in the middle and added 195 runs for the 5th wicket partnership before Mitchell was dismissed on 108 runs. Tom Blundell also missed his well-deserved hundred as James Anderson got his wicket when he was batting on 96 runs.

In the end, New Zealand posted a total of 285 runs and provided the target of 277 runs for the hosts. Joe Root once again played a match-winning knock for his team, scoring an unbeaten 115 runs and winning the game for his side.

Ben Stokes also played a crucial inning and added 54 runs on the board. Coming down the order, Ben Foakes stood strong with Joe Root and scored an unbeaten 32 runs for his team.
