'Unfair Decision': Shoaib Akhtar believes Babar Azam deserves to be 'Man of the Tournament' at the 2021 T20 World Cup I look forward to seeing Pakistani skipper Babar Azam win the award.

Former Pakistani pacemaker Shoaib Akhtar made his feelings pretty clear that Babar Azam was snubbed for the Player Of The Tournament award despite ending up as best run-getter at the recently concluded T20 World Cup in 2021. Akhtar called it an "unfair decision" to award the award to Australian opener David Warner, who helped Australia defeat teams like Pakistan and New Zealand in two high-pressure games. Warner had 289 runs in seven games, a staggering 48.16 average and a hit rate of over 140.

Babar ended up on the top step of the ladder, however, as he scored 303 runs in one less game than Warner on an unheard T20 average of 60.60.

Here's what Akhtar had to say about the decision: "I was really looking forward to @ babarazam258 becoming Man of the Tournament. Certainly an unfair decision."

For someone who entered the tournament with few runs and questions about his place on the national team, Warner did well to silence his critics. Warner registered three fifties and a healthy 146.70 strike rate while taking his time but certainly stamping his authority on the tournament.

Warner's appearance brought positive results for the team and, after some mediocre appearances from Captain Aaron Finch, also provided the much-needed direction at the top. Australia passed New Zealand without a fuss when they clinched their first T20 World Cup title with an eight-wicket win at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday.
