Hopefully we can do IPL in India next year: BCCI President Sourav Ganguly

 
BCCI President Sourav Ganguly expects the IPL to be played in India in 2022. He believes the worst phase is over and now the upcoming events in India will not be affected by the dreaded virus.

New Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 in India has been postponed due to the coronavirus epidemic in the first week of May 2021. After that, the rest of the IPL games in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were played in the September-October window.

The BCCI had to move the tournament to the UAE due to Covid-19. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly expects the IPL to be played in India in 2022. He believes and hopes that the worst phase is over and that the upcoming events in India are not affected by the dreaded virus.

“I think we're over and the worst is over. Hopefully we can get the IPL back in India next year because it's India's tournament and the atmosphere is different when it's played in India. International cricket is in progress. We were hosts to New Zealand. We're going to South Africa. West Indies and Sri Lanka will follow. So I think the worst is over. "

“We managed to complete the IPL despite all the Covid problems by bringing it to Dubai. The sports authorities in Dubai were exceptional. As before, our home cricket is in full swing. Last year was a little break because of the pandemic. We have done almost every tournament. The Ranji Trophy starts in January. The junior cricket is on. And so far there have been no positive cases (of Covid), ”he added.

When asked to comment on the possible effects of the new Omicron variant of Covid-19, he said he was not currently concerned. "Not yet. We will assess the condition in due course and see what happens," he added. Speaking of the national team: India has to tour South Africa from December 26th, where it will play three test matches in addition to three ODIs.
