IND vs WI: No crowd allowed for ODI series, but Kolkata to host with 75% crowd for T20 series in Eden Gardens

 

According to recent reports, the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) has confirmed that the ODI series between India and West Indies will be played behind closed doors due to the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

However, the Eden Gardens in Kolkata will allow 75 percent of fans to watch the T20I series between India and West Indies. The three-match ODI series is going to be held on 6th February, Sunday. After that, as per the schedule, the three-match T20I series will be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

In addition to that, the full-time limited-overs skipper Rohit Sharma is fully fit and will take charge in this tour and Virat Kohli is going to play under his leadership of him. In the recently concluded ODI series against South Africa, the KL Rahul-led Indian team has been whitewashed by the Proteas by 3-0.

It will be a very special and historic match: Gujarat Cricket Association

The Gujarat Cricket Association took its official Twitter and tweeted, "Considering the current situation, all the matches will be played behind the closed doors." 

"We are all set to host West Indies Tour of India ODI Series 2022. 1st ODI on the 6th of Feb will be a very special and historic match as India will be playing its 1000th ODI. The Indian team will be the first cricket team in the world to achieve this feat," it claimed.

Moreover, Avishek Dalmiya the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal has thanked the West Bengal Government and said, "We are thankful to the honourable Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, chief secretary and Government of West Bengal for announcing the resumption of sporting activities as well as for allowing 75 percent of the capacity of spectators back to the stadium."

He further added, "We feel that it will give a fresh lease of life to the sportspersons of the state. After the New Zealand T20I last year, this time too, CAB is confident that it will be able to successfully host the three T20Is against the West Indies in a similar manner."
