Watch: Twitter goes crazy after Glenn Maxwell hits a 100m six

The inaugural match of the 14th edition of IPL between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers has been a thriller one. After asked to bat first by Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians opened the innings with Rohit Sharma and Chris Lynn.

In the previous edition, Chris Lynn has warmed the bench throughout the season as he didn't get a single chance to play. But this time, the Australian batsman finally got an opportunity to open the innings for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2021.

He didn't disappoint the Paltans as missed his fifty by just one run after miss-timed his shot which went straight to the hands of Washington Sundar.

On the other side, Rohit Sharma who looked in good touch had been removed by Virat Kohli in the over of Yuzvendra Chahal. The rest of the team, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard didn't bat up to the mark and scored 31, 28, 13 and 7 runs respectively.

Harshal Patel goes through the middle-order of Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians looked strong on one moment before the RCB skipper brought back Harshal Patel right at the end of the middle-overs. Harshal Patel has done the job for his captain by sending off Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya in his back to back spell.

In the final over, Harshal Patel bagged three more wickets by removing Krunal Pandya, Kieron Pollard and Marco Jansen. He ended up his spell with the numbers 5 for 27 which clearly shows his domination against Mumbai Indians.

During the 19th over of the game, Virat Kohli dropped a catch of Krunal Pandya and got injured as the ball almost hit near to his eyes.

Summary of the game

In the end, Mumbai Indians posted 159 runs on the board. Following the target of 160 runs, Virat Kohli and Washington Sundar had come to open the innings and went back to the pavilion with the numbers 10 and 33.

Following Sundar, Rajat Patidar who is playing his first game had also been dismissed by the New Zealand fast bowler Trent Boult. Then Glenn Maxwell accelerated the run-rate in the middle overs before being dismissed by the debutant Marco Jansen for 39 runs.

He smashed a 100m six in the over Krunal Pandya which grabbed the attentions of the fans. Maxwell didn't hit a single six in the last two seasons due to his lack of form with the bat.

AB de Villiers gave all he had and took the team till the end of the innings and was run out in the final over Krunal Pandya. However, RCB won the game by hitting the last run on the last ball off Marco Jansen.
