Virender Sehwag slams Rishabh Pant for his poor captaincy against RCB

Virender Sehwag is one of the finest batsmen that India has ever produced. He is a nightmare for the opposition bowlers who go straightaway from the first ball on them.

Besides, Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore face off each other to grab 1st place on the points table. Fans have once again witnessed a nail-biting encounter in the 14th edition of IPL between these teams. 

In the end, Delhi Capitals lost the match by just one run as RCB regains their position on the top of the table. After that, the former Indian batsman, Virender Sehwag was not happy with the captaincy skills that Rishabh Pant showed off in his last game.

He asked the Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis to bowl the final over of the first innings when AB de Villiers on the strike. He leaked 23 runs off the final over which made a big impact on the scoreboard as RCB posted a target of 172 runs for the opposition. 

Summary of the second innings:

Rishabh Pant and his men have to chase the target of 172 runs posted by RCB. The scenario was totally different when Kyle Jamieson was introduced to the attack. Virat Kohli's plan paid off as Jamieson dismissed the Orange Cap holder Shikhar Dhawan for single-digit numbers.

Steve Smith followed him in the next over and this time, Mohammed Siraj delivered a spectacular ball to send a world-class batsman back to the dressing room.

Prithvi Shaw who looked good at the other end has once again failed to convert his starts to a big one including Marcus Stoinis on the other end.

Then the skipper Rishabh Pant took the responsibility along with the West Indies power hitter Shimron Hetmyer. Both of them added more than 50 runs to their names but failed to take their side over the victory line.

In the final over of the game, Delhi needed 14 off 6 balls as Mohammed Siraj defended the remaining runs and won the game for his side. 

Virender Sehwag was not happy with Rishabh Pant's captaincy:

Virender Sehwag was seemed to be not happy after watching Rishabh Pant's captaincy in the previous. He didn't use his main bowler's full quota of overs which costed Delhi Capitals to gave the ball to Marcus Stoinis in the final over of the first half.

"I won’t give him even five marks out of 10 for his captaincy because you just can’t make such mistakes. If your main bowler isn’t bowling, your calculations go wrong – that’s what captaincy is all about.

You need to take care of that. A captain must manage his bowling resources according to the situation," the 42-year-old said.

"You need to learn that. Or else you hand over the ball to whomsoever you want. The capability of a skipper is measured by how he turns the game around. He needs to make changes in the bowling or field position accordingly.

So, if Rishabh Pant wants to become a good captain, he needs to keep these small things in his mind. Play smart cricket, then only you can become a smart skipper," he further added.
