Royal Challengers Bangalore is likely to keep Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell ahead of the IPL auction

Royal Challengers Bangalore will keep ex-captain Virat Kohli and Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell ahead of next year's mega auction.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are ready to keep ex-captain Virat Kohli and Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell ahead of next year's mega auction. All eight existing teams have until November 30th to post the list of players they would keep. These teams are allowed to keep a maximum of 4 players. Two of the retained names may be from foreign players.

The report went on to say that the two new franchises - Lucknow and Ahmedabad - will be able to select three players ahead of the auction after the withholdings have ended. The combination for these two teams would be two Indians and one overseas player.

According to a report, the teams are likely to receive a purse of Rs 90 crore at the upcoming IPL auction.

Virat Kohli had decided to step down from the captain of the franchise after the IPL ended in 2021. RCB will also do without the talismanic South African batsman AB de Villiers from next season, as he announced his retirement from all cricket a few days ago.

Kohli has been the most successful runner in the history of the franchise and IPL and is expected to continue to play a major role, but not as a captain. Glenn Maxwell was the star performer for RCB in IPL 2021 when he finished 5th with 513 runs. His ability to bowl effective off-spin and electric field skills means RCB values him and may not want to take the risk of him to resume in the auction.
