IPL Retention: Full list of the big names released by all franchises prior to the IPL mega auction

A number of top cricketers were not taken over by their respective teams prior to the IPL mega auction.

A total of 27 cricketers, including eight overseas players and four unrestricted players, were transferred from the existing eight franchises during Tuesday's IPL custody. But a number of top cricketers have not been adopted by their respective teams. This can be both good and bad for the players, as they can either be selected from the two new franchises before the auction or they can return to the auction pool where they have the chance to get a higher or lower price.

Here's a look at the big names that are missing from the keep list

Mumbai Indians: MI has to make the toughest decisions every time IPL holdings happen before the mega auction, and this year it was no different. The most successful team at IPL, MI (with five titles) kept Rohit Sharma (Rs 16 crore), Jasprit Bumrah (Rs 12 crore), Suryakumar Yadav (Rs 8 crore) and Kieron Pollard (Rs 6 crore) but the like from Ishan Kishan , Trent Boult, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya had to be released.

MI released big names: Hardik Pandya, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Trent Boult.

Chennai Super Kings: Four-time champion CSK kept Ravindra Jadeja (Rs 16 crore), MS Dhoni (Rs 12 crore), Moeen Ali (Rs 8 crore) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (Rs 6 crore), but there was no room for them Suresh Raina, Faf du Plessis and Dwayne Bravo. All three, Bravo and Raina in particular, have been an integral part of the CSK buildup for quite some time, but the franchise has apparently decided to look to the future.

Royal Challengers Bangalore: RCB didn't have many tough decisions to make after AB de Villiers announced that he would no longer be part of the IPL. But her decision to keep only Mohammed Siraj and not last season's purple cap wearer Harshal Patel raised some eyebrows. There was also no room for the leg thief Yuzvendra Chahal.

RCB releases big names: Harshal Patel, Devdutt Padikkal, Yuzvendra Chahal

Kolkata Knight Riders: The two-time IPL winners held onto their proven Caribbean firepower from Andre Russell and Sunil Narine. The young savages Varun Chakaravarthy and Venkatesh Iyer were trusted, which meant that there was no room for Shubman Gill.

KKR Big Names Released: Shubman Gill, Eoin Morgan, Pat Cummins, Nitish Rana, Rahul Tripathi.

Delhi Capitals: If there was one team that could keep up with the MI headache on Retention Day, it was DC. The Delhi-based franchise had a variety of stars to choose from, but with four retentions allowed, only managed to retain Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Prithvi Shaw and Anrich Nortje.

DC greats released: Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Ajinkya Rahane, Steve Smith, Ravichandran Ashwin, Marcus Stoinis, Kagiso Rabada.

Rajasthan Royals: They were heavily dependent on their foreign battery, which meant that keeping the core would always be difficult as the IPL retention rules only allowed two foreign recruits. RR took the lead with Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler, while Yashasvi Jaiswal without a cap was the surprise pick.

RR big names released: Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, Mustafizur Rahman

SunRisers Hyderabad: You haven't had the best times IPLing, which was reflected in their retention policy. But even then, it was a bit of a surprise to let Rashid Khan go into the auction pool. SRH kept Kane Williamson, cricketers Abdul Samad and Umran Malik boned.

SRH released big names: David Warner, Rashid Khan, Jonny Bairstow, Kedar Jadhav, Manish Pandey, Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Punjab Kings: There have been several reports suggesting that KL Rahul will no longer be part of the franchise, and unfortunately for PBKS fans, all of them have come true. The Punjab kings decided to keep Mayank Agarwal and the uncapped left-arm sailor Arshdeep Singh on their side.

PBKS published big names: KL Rahul, Chris Gayle, Nicholas Pooran, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohammed Shami.
