IPL 2023: New Opening Pair for CSK ahead of Upcoming Season

Without any doubt, MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings has been one of the best franchises all across the globe. They often dominated the T20 extravaganza, Indian Premier League every season they played.

However, IPL 2020 and IPL 2022 haven't gone well for the four-time champions, as they finished just above the bottom of the league table. Despite having some popular names on the paper, Chennai Super Kings, the side known for their consistency have failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Still, they made comeback after their downfall in IPL 2020. MS Dhoni and his men won the title for the 4th time during the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League.

Besides, Chennai Super Kings have roped in some talented batters named Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube and a few more. Let's have a look at the new opening combination that CSK would try in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League.

Ruturaj Gaikwad

Without any doubt, if the right-handed batter, Ruturaj Gaikwad keeps himself away from injuries, he will open the innings for Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League.

Ruturaj Gaikwad has been a consistent performer for CSK since his debut for the side. During IPL 2021, the latter smashed 635 runs after getting featured in 16 games that he played at an average of 45.34 including a hundred to his name.

However, in the previous season, the right-handed batter hasn't been much effective with the bat as he managed to score only 368 runs in 14 games at an average of 26.28. The CSK management and fans are expecting the 26-year-old to perform well in the upcoming season.

Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes would be the next option for CSK if they want to drop Devon Conway or if he gets injured during the training session. Ben Stokes has featured in 43 games in IPL where he amassed 920 runs that he played at an average of 25.55, including two hundred under his belt.

The English all-rounder also has the ability to bowl in both powerplay and slog overs of the game. He was roped by Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2023 mini-auction and will don the yellow jersey under the leadership of MS Dhoni.
