IPL 2022: Shreyas Iyer is likely to go under the hammer in IPL 2022 Mega Auction

The mega auction for the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League is all set to take place in February. In this season, we are going to witness 10 teams, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India has added two new IPL teams Ahmedabad and Lucknow who are yet to reveal their official names.

Moreover, the 8 existing franchises have made their retentions ahead of the mega auction, as the BCCI has extended the deadlines for the two new teams to make the retentions for the upcoming cash-rich contest.

On that note, the two newly added teams have already started to rope the players who are in the pool for the mega auctions. As per the reports, KL Rahul is likely to lead the Lucknow-based franchise with Ravi Bishnoi and Marcus Stoinis.

Shreyas Iyer is likely to go into the mega auction of IPL 2022:

Shreyas Iyer who-led Delhi Capitals till the finals against Mumbai Indians in IPL 2020 has not been retained by the franchise for the upcoming season. However, the 27-year-old made a fabulous Test debut against New Zealand as he smashed a hundred and a fifty which helped his side to seal the series by 2-0.

During the IPL 2021, Shreyas Iyer sustained an injury that made him warm the bench on many occasions and the Delhi management gave the leadership responsibility to the wicket-keeper batsman, Rishabh Pant.

If the recent reports are to be believed, the Bangalore-based franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore were keen to get the services for Shreyas Iyer by roping him in the mega auction of IPL 2022.

In that case, a source claimed, "Post Virat Kohli quitting the RCB captaincy, RCB are really interested in having Iyer as their next captain. Expect them to bid aggressively for the Mumbaikar in next month’s auction in Bangalore."

Following that, the Times of India (TOI) has also stated, "The Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings are also expected to eye him in the auction."
