ICC banned the former Sri Lanka cricketer Nuwan Zoysa for six years

A lot of former cricketers and coach have been banned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in recent times. Currently, Nuwan Zoysa, the former Sri Lanka cricketer has been the new entrant on the list.

The left-arm pacer made his international debut in a Test match against New Zealand on 10th March 1997. Till now, he has represented his nation in 30 Tests and 95 ODIs and plucked 64 and 108 wickets respectively.

This is not the first or either will be the last time that a player breaches the Anti-Corruption Code of ICC. Last time, ICC banned Heath Streak who is recognised as one of the best players from Zimbabwe.

As of now, Nuwan Zoysa has been banned by ICC for a span of six years and could not take part in any form of the game.

The three articles that were breached by Nuwan Zoysa:

• Article 2.1.1, "for being party to an agreement or effort to fix or contrive or otherwise influence improperly the result, progress, conduct or other aspect(s) of a match."
• Article 2.1.4, "directly or indirectly soliciting, inducing, enticing, instructing, persuading, encouraging or intentionally facilitating any Participant to breach Code Article 2.1."
• Article 2.4.4, "failing to disclose to the ACU full details of any approaches or invitations received to engage in corrupt conduct under the Code."

ICC General Manager of Integrity Unit, Alex Marshal stated that:

Alex Marshall, the Manager of Integrity Unit in ICC has shared a few words on the ban. He said, "Nuwan played 125 matches for Sri Lanka, attending a number of anti-corruption sessions during a decade-long international career. In his role as a national coach, he should have acted as a role model."
