Mumbai Indians defeated Delhi Capitals to win their fifth title in the league. They are also the most successful team in the cash-rich league after having won the title 5 times. Chennai Super Kings are the second-most successful team in the IPL with 3 titles.
As far as other franchises are concerned, Kolkata Knight Riders lifted the title twice while Deccan Chargers (now-defunct franchise) and Deccan Chargers managed to achieve it just once.
On the other hand, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Capitals haven't won the title since the inception of the tournament. Among these three teams, RCB made it to the final on 3 occasions while KXIP and Capitals made it to the final just once.
Meanwhile, the upcoming IPL auction is slated to be held in Chennai on February 18. The mini-IPL auction will see 8 IPL franchises battling among themselves to sign the best players. As many as 292 cricketers will go under the hammer and the auction will be aired live on Star Sports network in India from 3 pm (IST) and on the Hotstar application for live streaming.
Nehra reveals his pick for the most expensive player
As many as 10 players have set the maximum bracket of INR 2 crore as the base price. Harbhajan Singh and Kedar Jadhav are the two Indian players and as far as the overseas players are concerned Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Shakib Al Hasan, Moeen Ali, Sam Billings, Liam Plunkett, Jason Roy and Mark Wood are there in the list.
Ahead of the auction, former Indian fast bowler Ashish disclosed his prediction for the most expensive player. According to Nehra, Shakib Al Hasan will be the most expensive player in the upcoming auction. The former pacer added that Shakib can give the much-needed balance to any IPL team in any T20.
“Again, one more IPL auction and plenty of big names, but one name, which according to me is right on top – can be the most expensive player of this IPL auction – is Bangladesh all-rounder, Shakib Al Hasan (former captain). He can give balance to any IPL team in any T20,” the former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra said on Star Sports’ show Cricket Connected – Auction Special.
