IPL 2022: Punjab Kings have announced their new captain for the upcoming season

 

In the mega auction of the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League, Shikhar Dhawan was the first player to be sold in the mega auction for a sum of INR 8.25 crore.

He registered himself in the 2 crore category as Punjab Kings roped him ahead of the upcoming edition of the tournament. The former Delhi Capitals cricketer had performed well in the previous season and the South African pacer Kagiso Rabada has also done well in that season.

Despite giving some match-winning performance, the Delhi management has decided to release them ahead of the mega auction where Punjab Kings scalped both the players to their squad.

The Punjab management bought the right-arm pacer for a staggering amount of INR 9.25 crore who will share his services along with Arshdeep Singh for the franchise.

Punjab Kings is likely to announce Shikhar Dhawan as their new captain:

Punjab Kings have been led by the Karnataka batsman KL Rahul in the last three seasons where he remained as the lone warrior for the side. Moreover, the right-handed batsman doesn't want to be retained in the next season and has been released by the franchise ahead of the mega auction.

Besides, as of now, Punjab Kings is looking to name Shikhar Dhawan as their new skipper for the upcoming season as the left-hander has a lot of experience in both domestic and international circuits.

The co-owner of the Punjab Kings franchise Preity Zinta felt happy with Shikhar Dhawan's signing and said, "Yeah, we got Shikhar Dhawan. Always wanted him in our team."

Shikhar Dhawan has featured in 194 matches in the Indian Premier League where he amassed 5784 runs that he played at an average of 34.84 which includes 2 hundred and 44 fifties to his name. Hence, we can expect some fabulous show from the veteran Indian cricketer in the next season.
