IPL 2022: Gujarat Titans roped Priyank Panchal as a backup opener ahead of this season

According to the reports, Gujarat skipper Priyank Panchal has joined with Gujarat Titans as a backup player ahead of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League.

The Gujarat based franchise has appointed the Baroda all-rounder Hardik Pandya as their skipper for their first season of this tournament. Moreover, they also have the likes of former Kolkata Knight Riders opener Shubman Gill and the premier spinner of Sunrisers Hyderabad Rashid Khan.

After Jason Roy pulled out his name, the Gujarat Titans management roped a destructive batsman from Afghanistan named Rahmanullah Gurbaz.

Moreover, considering the reports from Sportskeeda, a source suggests that Priyank Panchal will be joining the side as a backup player for this edition of the Indian Premier League. Having a look at his T20 stats, the 31-year-old has featured in 50 games where he scored 1327 runs at a strike rate of well around 130.

The opening batter of Gujarat Titans has opened up about his poor strike rate and said, "It differs from situation to situation, and when you go in to bat, there are different targets. Your mindset can't be the same in every innings. The wicket might be different.

So you have to plan accordingly. As a player, that is the challenge, and you know that if you play with the same mindset and game plan, then it becomes very easy for the opposition to plan tactically," Shubman Gill was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

"And it is all about experience when it comes to adapting to different situations. That is what helps you grow. This year, I’ll be working with Gary Kirsten, who is our mentor [and batting coach], and hopefully, I get to learn some new tricks to put up my sleeve," he added. 

"I am looking forward to whatever the team demands from me. I am sure the captain and the coaching staff have a particular thing in mind… hopefully, we all can work together and help the team," said Gill.
