The Indian cricket team is currently engaged with the Kane Williamson-led New Zealand in the first Test at Kanpur. The match kicked off on 25th November and the Indian spinners put the side on the driver's seat.

Having a quick look at the match, Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and decided to bat first. The debutant Shreyas Iyer struck his first hundred in a crucial time and with the help of his 105, India posted a comprehensive total of 345 runs on the board.

Tim Southee was the top-bowler for New Zealand, having picked 5 wickets along with Kyle Jamieson and Ajaz Patel who have bagged 3 and 2 wickets respectively. In the first innings of New Zealand, Tom Latham and Will Young overwhelmed the Indian bowlers and put a 151 runs stand for the first wicket.

It was Ravichandran Ashwin who give the first breakthrough for India and Axar Patel followed him. Both the bowlers removed the well-settled batsmen for 95 and 89 runs respectively. Then the Indian bowlers took control and bowled out the opposition of 296 runs.

Shreyas Iyer and Wriddhiman Saha's crucial knock helped India to come back into the match:

Axar Patel was the star bowler for India who took 5 wickets for his side. Ravichandran Ashwin also did well with the ball and picked up 3 wickets whereas Umesh Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja bagged one each.

India got a lead of well above 50 runs and Ajinkya Rahane once again asked Shubman Gill and Mayank Agarwal to open the innings. However, both the batsmen returned with cheap numbers that followed by Ajinkya Rahane as well.

Cheteshwar Pujara played decent with bat and scored 22 runs. Then Shreyas Iyer and Wriddhiman Saha played a crucial role and added 65 and 61 runs respectively. In the end, India set up a target of 284 runs and asked for opposition to chase it down.

Following the chase, Will Young has been dismissed by Ashwin at the end of day 4. Then Tom Latham and William Somerville played well throughout the morning session and scored 52 and 36 runs before being sent back to the pavilion by the Indian bowlers.

Despite losing nine wickets, New Zealand managed to draw the match and both teams will be looking to overplay each other in the second and final Test at Mumbai. Besides, during the match, Axar Patel bagged 5 wickets and got the ball while having a session with his teammates.
