The legendary Australian spinner Shane Warne has named his five best current batter in the cricket test. At the top of Warne's list is Australia's vice-captain Steve Smith, followed by English test skipper Joe Root and New Zealand captain Kane Williamson. "I have Steve Smith. In all conditions and against all long bowling attacks, Smith is outstanding. Joe Root is number two; he's made six hundred this calendar year. Kane Williamson is always there," Warne said in a video uploaded to Instagram by Fox Cricket.

The former leg spinner also introduced India's test captain Virat Kohli as his fourth-best batsman in the format, while Australia's mid-tier young batsman Marnus Labuschagne made it to fifth on Warne's list.

"Virat Kohli just dropped a bit, and then Marnus (Labuschagne) rounds off the top 5 for me," added Warne.

Kohli has not scored an international hundred since 2019 and 2021 was one of his best years as a batsman and captain.

At the beginning of the year, the 33-year-old resigned as India's T20I captain. He was later removed as an ODI skipper, with the BCCI appointing Rohit Sharma as a temporary full-time captain.

However, Kohli will continue to lead India in test cricket where he is the country's most successful skipper with 39 wins.

Kohli is also the third most successful test captain of all time when it comes to number of wins. The South African Graeme Smith leads this table with 53 wins, followed by the Australian Ricky Ponting with 48 wins.
