Seasoned players, including myself, haven't done well: Kieron Pollard after WI were eliminated from the semi-finals

Kieron Pollard admitted that the veteran West Indian players did not do well in the ongoing T20 World Cup after the defending champions were kicked out of the semifinals. The West Indies suffered clinical defeat in 20 runs against Sri Lanka in a crucial, fatal match. Seasoned Windies players like Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard and Dwayne did not live up to expectations.

Pollard believes the defending champions were below par and admitted that the field against Sri Lanka was not up to date. “I think we were below average. In a crucial game like this, you don't want to see these things (for stake). Our bowlers did well, they got 189, but it was a very good stroke, "said Pollard in the presentation after the game.

The way Sri Lanka played, they didn't throw us out of the game, they played very smartly. Only 3 sixes but 17 fours so they didn't give us any chances.

The skipper also praised Shimron Hetmyer, who scored 80 unbeaten runs and wants him to hit that way at a constant level. “Hetmyer did brilliantly in the end, that's what he can do as an individual. Get in early, hit the ball around and end up exploding. We want to see that from him, a little more consistency. He and Pooran, we know we have these guys, "added Pollard.

“I think cricket smarts is something that has plagued us. We've always spoken mostly from the bottom line of what we need to do as individuals, and we haven't done it well. " Pollard went on to explain that a few young people are knocking on doors as the seasoned players, including him, were not performing well.

“A few young people raise their hands, but the experienced guys, including me, didn't do well. We won't hide from the fact that it was disappointing for us. I'm sure all the guys in that locker room are injured. It's something we don't see coming, but we have to face reality, ”Pollard concluded.
